A senior Australian government minister has said Kanye could be denied a visa if he tries to visit West Australia because of his anti-Semitic comments.
Education Minister Jason Clare was responding to media reports that the American celebrity wanted to visit the family of his new Australian partner Bianca Sensori in Melbourne next week.
Mr Clare said he did not know whether West had applied for a visa, but Australia had previously refused them to people with opposing views.
“I would expect that if he does apply, he will have to go through the same process and answer the same questions as those who air these kinds of views,” the minister told Nine Network television.
Last month, West praised Hitler in an interview with conspiracy theorist Alex Jones.
Twitter later suspended the rapper after he tweeted a picture of a swastika merged with the Star of David.
The Migration Act of Australia sets out the security and character requirements for non-citizens to enter the country.
Any decision on whether West will get an Australian visa will be made by Immigration Minister Andrew Giles, whose office said he could not comment on individual cases for confidentiality reasons.
Peter Wertheim, co-chief executive of the Executive Council of Australian Juries, met with government officials on Tuesday to argue for the entry ban.
“We had a sympathetic hearing,” Mr Wertheim said on Sky News. “We made the case that this particular individual does not meet the character test and it would be in the national interest not to grant him a visa and we set out our reasons in some detail.”
Leader of the Opposition Peter Dutton said that if he were in government, he would be inclined to bar West on character grounds.

“My inclination would be not to allow them in,” Mr Dutton told Melbourne’s Radio 3AW on Tuesday.
Dutton said, “His anti-Semitic comments are outrageous, his conduct and his behavior appalling, and he is not a man of good character.”
Seven Network News reported West and Ms Sensori intended to visit his family in the north-east Melbourne suburb of Ivanhoe next week.
Entertainment news website TMZ reported two weeks ago that the rapper married less than two months after finalizing his divorce from Kim Kardashian.
The AP asked West’s representative whether he had married Ms Sensi and planned to move to Melbourne, but did not receive an immediate response.
